Éire Óg 2-6 TCG 1-8
Éire Óg locked horns with Tir Chonaill Gaels in a tightly contested Murphy Cup semi-final on a balmy September afternoon. In the early exchanges TCG were the sharper of the two sides and that was reflected in the score line as they went in at the interval leading 1.05 to 0.04.
There was plenty more to come from Éire Óg following half time as Niall Murray and Pat Tobin gave match winning displays in defence as they kept TCG to just three points in the second half. Going in to the last five minutes it was almost impossible to call a winner as TCG lead by a point but Éire Óg had the lion’s share of possession but were struggling to make it count. It took an injury time goal from mercurial wing back, Ronan Campfield, to swing the tie in the home side’s favour and lead the North London club to their first Murphy Cup final appearance. Notable mentions must go to Dave Hegarty in goals who put his body on the line in the dying seconds to secure the win for Éire Óg and to Gabriel Dennehy who was a threat throughout in the forwards.
Éire Óg: D. Hegarty, P. Sweeney, P.Tobin N. Murray, C.Kenny, J. Whyte, R. Campfield, G. Crowley, D. Cotter, J. Keneghan, A. Rogan, R. Collins, C. McElhinney, S. McGrath, G. Dennehy. Subs used. D. Roarty, P. O’Keeffe, C. O’Kane
