Éire Óg 4-06

Tir Chonaill 1-11

On a warm evening in Greenford they boys got a well-deserved and much needed win. Although it was a challenge game both sides played with high intensity and aggression. Early points were exchanged before Johnny in midfield let it in low to Johnny at full-forward and he slipped it past the keeper for the first goal. Soon afterwards a great move was finished in style by Higgins who had broken from mid-field. The team fell into a lull for the rest of the first half and allowed the opposition back into the game. The score was 2-1 to 0-6 at half time. Conor Nilan had to be replaced at the break after sustaining an eye injury.

The second half started slowly for Eire Og and were only a point up before Johnny O’Connor took control of the game from Midfield. Some inspirational points were topped by a goal blasted into the top corner and in a 10 minute spell mid-way through the second half Eire Og had an unassailable lead. The game then got heated with both sides having a player sent to the line. Again some lapses in concentration allowed the opposition into shooting range and they duly obliged with some nicely taken scores. Eire Og scoring was rounded off by a second goal for Johnny Costello although there was a large slice of luck involved as his initial shot re-bounded off the post straight back into his hands for him to slot home. The game ended with Paddy in goal being lobbed from far out but in fairness it looked like an attempt at a point that cruelly dipped under the cross bar.

A good win in the end but plenty to work on in the training sessions and match before the Championship
