Eire Og v Shalloe Pearse – McArdle Cup Round 2

On a lovely Sunday afternoon out in the Emerald Grounds we played Shalloe Pearse in the second round of the McArdle cup. We had a strong panel of 21 players on the day and another ten away or unavailable.

The game got underway with Eire Og taking an early lead with some good passing and movement to ensure we were a couple of scores up before out of the blue Pearse’s had a man sent off for an altercation with the referee. We went in at half time 0-7 to -04 at half time.

Early in the second half Johnny Costello picked up a nasty knock on his ankle and needed to come off. Conor Nilan was having a field day on his first outing of the season and gave the Pearse’s backs the run around.

We fell asleep for seven minutes in the second half and conceded three unanswered scores. With ten minutes to go it was level and both sides where pushing for the win. Pearse’ broke past our defence a couple of times only for Dave Moran to pull off two great saves one of which went over for a point. We continued to push forward and were caught on the break resulting in conceding another point. With three minutes to go it was a case of getting the ball up into the forwards and putting the pressure on. We made a great move only for their keeper to make a class save.

We got one more point just before the referee called time on what was a very even game that we feel we should have won. The final score was 0-8 to -10.
