Division 3 league: Eire Og (1-17) v (2-6) Brighton & Crawley Gaels

Last Saturday we made our fifth visit of the season to Goodmayes to play Brighton and Crawley Gaels in the league. We had 25 lads available for selection. It was good to have James Kilroy and Darren Carroll available, both returned after long term injuries.

This was a game we where up for after last weeks win. We made a couple of changes with Keith Doherty, Liam Dunne and Tim Kelly, replacing Brian “Digger” Digney, Dave Moran and Paul Keohe.

The game got underway and we where quick off the mark taking our chance, we built up a lead of five points, Johnny O Connor was having a field day and took four scores in a row. Brighton make several good moves and got two important scores to reduce our lead, A good ball from JOC to Steven Perry seen him in on goal, the keeper made a good save but Conor “Nible” Nilan followed up and slotted the ball into the onion sack. We came in at half time 1-10 to 0-2.

We where slow out of the blocks in the second half and conceded two goals in two minutes to allow Brighton back into the game. The lads gathered their composure and got back into the game, Sean Allen was having his best game of the season with some good moves and solid tackles. Donal Flynn came on for Tim Kelly early in the second half to freshen up the half forwards. Liam Dunne made a good run from the full backs only to be taken out by an imaginary sniper. He tripped himself up!

We continued to push forward and got our reward with another couple of points to build up a five point lead with ten minutes to go. Dermot Reynolds, Connie McCarthy, Fergal Dolan and Gerry Cathy came on to get some game time and played well. A nicely taken free from Johnny Costello ensured we ran out comprehensive winners.

Best of look to Brighton for the rest of the season and a hard fought game.

Well done to all involved. Final score 1-17 to 2-6.
