Match report: Eire Og 3-5 v 1-11 Brighton & Crawley Gaels

We took on Brighton and Crawley Gaels on Sunday in the first round of the Championship. The game took place on a nice sunny afternoon in Ruislip.

We were very quick off the mark and got a goal within a minute of the throw in. We opened up a comfortable lead midway through the first half. Nigel picked up a nasty injury to his shoulder and soon after Brian was on the sideline too. Losing both our fullback and half back left us open to Brighton’s attacking play and we conceded a couple of scores just before the half.

We went in a half time with a five point lead.

We were very slow out of the blocks in the second half and conceded another couple of answered scores. An off the ball incident with Johnny and a Brighton’s substitute seen them both sent off, one might say the incident didn’t even deserve a yellow card.

Brighton clawed the game back to a draw and then took the lead by a goal when a good move from our half forwards and full forwards seen Paul through on goals and he blasted the ball home. The game was level again and we had a couple of chances with Richie and Johnny just missing the target.

With two minutes to go we went a point up and the game looked like it was in our favour when Brighton made one last push forward from their backs, we didn’t get an early challenge in and they went on to get a point.

Both teams felt unlucky at the end not to get a win in this tight game.
