Match Report: Eire Og v Moindearg – McCardle Cup R3
Last Sunday we where playing in Goodmayes for the fourth time this season. We had our biggest turnout of the year with 25 players available for selection. The lads took to the pitch to warm up while Paul and Paddy discussed team selection.
As throw in time came close there was no sign of Moindearg, thankfully after a short delay the Moindearg lads arrived out of nowhere and the game was on.
We where quick out of the blocks and where up a couple scores after six minutes (1-1). Moindearg where stunned that we had come out of the blocks so quick and could not keep up with our play. Some slick moves from Ste Perry, Big Damo, Kieran Lyons and Johnny O Connor ensured the forwards received plenty of possession and took their scores.
We went in at half time 3-6 to 0-1 up. The message from Paul and Paddy was that the game was not won and to ensure we did not take our foot off the peddle.
The second half got underway with the wind in our favour, this was to be our advantage when JOC played a ball in from 50 yards to loop over the keeper into the new. Conor “Nimble” Nilan was having a field day and getting lots of space and had three goals to his name.
It could have been a day for Nigel, Paul, Niall and Dave to have brought their deck chairs to the game. Dairmaid Cadhain, Brian “Digger” Digney and Kieran Lyons were on form in the half backs ensuring that Monidearg did not breach our defence.
Paul Keohe, Sean Allen and Steven Perry where putting a solid shift in up in the half forwards. John Tierney was in at full forward and made his first appearance for the club.
As the game went on we made several changes, Richie “Jazz Hands” Bradley, Dermot Reynolds, Kieran “Rasher” Bacon and Tim Kelly where introduced to the game.
A good move down the field ensured the ball fell to Rasher Bacon who had the goal in sight but rather than slot it home he managed to hit the crossbar.
A special mention must go to Conor Nilan who got a hat trick of goals.
Overall this was a good day for the club, we had our largest panel of the season, our largest winning margin and we have the possibility of qualifying for the semi final of the cup.
The final score was Eire Og 6-11 to 1-2 Moindearg
There is plenty of work to be done and it’s essential that all players attend training on Tuesday and Thursday.
