Junior Championship 2012 – Round 2
Éire Óg 0-5
Cuchullians 1-18
Last Saturday saw us play round two of the Junior Championship in Donkey Lane, Enfield. We where up against strong opposition in Cuchullians.
We had a panel of 24 players out for this game, it goes to show how well the club is progressing this year. The large panel made it a nightmare for Paul to choose his starting line up. The nightmare was made even worse when in the warm up Donal Flynn pulled up injured his back.
The game got going in good spirit, we where four points down when Gerry Carthy and Nigel Drew clashed heads which ended up with both of them needing medical attention, Nigel needed three stitches to his chin where as Gerry need some patching up to his head. This break in play did not help us and we lost our rhythm and required us to change formation. Cuchullians are a good outfit and made us work hard for the ball. We got a couple of scores back before half time.
In the second half we were under a bit of pressure right from the throw in from Cuchullians. They started off they way the finished the first half playing good football and taking their scores. We brought on fresh legs in the second half in an attempt to claw back the lead but we missed several changes from open play and frees. We got a couple of scores late on to reduce the margin.
This was our biggest test of the season to date and we did not go down without a fight.
Our next game in the Championship is against St. Anthony’s. If we win this and results go our way we are in the semi final!
