Club Notes 14th September 2015

September 14, 2015

Last Saturday we travelled to the Irish TV Grounds, Ruislip to take on St Clarets in the semi-final of the Championship. This was the fifth time the teams would play each other with both sides winning two games each from the previous encounters.

The game got under way with the breeze in our favour. We did not use this to our advantage and Clarets took an early lead. Ronan Campfield rattled the upright with a chance that would have seen us take the lead. This was a key moment which woke our lads up. We went in at half time leading 1-4 to 0-4.

The second half was a much livelier affair with both teams pushing to get scores on the board. A great save by Padraig Mulholland ensured we held onto the lead. Sean McGrath swept aside his man and made a burst for goal but only to hit the side netting. With ten minutes to go we were reduced to 14 men when Niall Murray was shown a second yellow.

Our lads showed great courage and continued to push forward we took the lead with three minutes to go. Clarets pushed on in the final few minute and managed to level the score.

Stand our performers on the day where Joe MacMahon and John Bradley. Joe’s goal was a big turning point in the game and Peter Sweeney had his best game for the club.

The game finished 1-8 to 0-11. The replay is fixed for next Saturday at 3pm in Ruislip.
