Last Tuesday we took on Thomas McCurtains in a league game in Downhills Park. This game was an important game for both teams as both teams look to push for promotion from division three.
We started the brighter of the two teams notching up five unanswered scored with the wind in our favour. We had three goal chances only for the McCurtains keeper to make two saves and the crossbar prevented us from extending out leads. McCurtains got back into the game and reduced out leads to one point at half time. The halftime was 6-5 in our favour.
The second half was a different affair with McCurtains having the wind and the better changes. We were slow to react and at one stage where six points down with ten minutes to go and controlling the game. We made a final push and reduced their lead going into injury time to four points. We managed to work a point from nowhere. The resulting kick from the McCurtains keeper was won at half forward and a final drive with the last kick of the game seen us score a goal.
The game ended in a draw which will not benefit either team on their push for promotion.
Yesterday we played Shalloe Pearse in the first round of the Championship in Ruislip. We opted to play against the wind in the first half. We defended well and managed to get a couple of scores before half time. We led at half time by four points 1-4 to 0-4.
We had the wind in our favour in the second hand which we used to our advantage. Some good play from Joe McMahon and Ronan Campfield ensured we built a comfortable lead. The score of the day came from Eoin Conway with a well taken point from distance. Our defence played excellent in the second half and did not concede a score.
The final score was 3-15 to 0-4 in our favour.
Our next game is on Saturday at 4:30pm in Ruislip when we take on Crawley & Brighton Gales in the Mularkey Cup semi-final.
